Once all the RSVPs are in, Cutrone — a key player in the world of high fashion known to be both cruel and kind — strategically places the guests. It sounds simple, but designers pay big bucks for a flawless seating chart.
On the show, Skinner, who was raised on the North Side, is learning the ropes in her new position. Her responsibilities range from training interns to ordering office supplies. Tensions rise when the interns fail to do tasks or make mistakes in the RSVP lists for the shows, which creates more work for Skinner.
At the time, she had just been hired as Cutrone's assistant after working as her intern for three Fashion Week seasons. Skinner took a break from working on a Mara Hoffman fashion show to answer a few questions.
An edited version of that conversation follows. Q: You were trying to meet the expectations of the senior team and then dealing with mistake-prone intern Stephanie Vorhees — what was that like? A: I was almost having breakdown after breakdown because she couldn't do anything right at all. It was just awful. Q: How did you manage your breakdown?
